I Wisdom

October 9, 2006

This morning, our pastor preached from Psalm 1:1-2 which reads “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the council of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”  To really seek out the Lords will and his ways which are so far above our ways as to be past finding out.  If there’s one thing that this world has an over-abundance of, it’s “bad advice.”  It’s like the proverbial psychiatrist saying “it’s not your fault; just blame your mother.” That is very bad advice; especially when the bible says to honor your parents as it will lead to having a long life on the earth.

If you listen to the worlds wisdom long enough, it’ll make you nutty.  They would have you to believe that you are descended from monkeys, you need more medication, your life will be so much easier with this new gizmo, entertainment news is real news, you shouldn’t talk of politics or religion, he who dies with the most toys wins, dolphins are smarter than humans, the hokey pokey IS what it’s all about, sodomites are just “born that way,” and the most dangerous of all “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”  (Apparently Franklin Roosevelt never read Matthew 10:28 or Proverbs 1:7)

The worlds wisdom would tell you that all of the matter in the universe began as a “big bang” in which everything exploded out from a single point.  Question; how come matter is scattered throughout the universe and not only on the perimeter.  If the big bang is true, then the place where the big bang transpired should be void of matter.  And WHATS MAKING IT SPEED UP?  They come up with all kinds of theories; I read them in Astronomy Magazine each month, and yet, they can never accept what Hebrews 11:3 says.  “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”   The worlds wisdom is in total opposition with reality, and yet, it suffices the five senses and will cause one to find solace in the creation instead of the God who created every galaxy, every star, and all that is.  (Even the “dark energy” that defies explanation.)

True wisdom comes from God and the only way to know him is to repent of your sins and accept Jesus as your Saviour.  Then you will have a personal relationship with the creator of the universe.  I remember an astronomer a few years back lamenting that interstellar travel may never leave the realm of science fiction.  This really shouldn’t be a concern if you know Jesus for two reasons.  One: he created everything that exists and you know him personally.  Two: it’s all going to burn anyway.  “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”  (II Peter 3:13)  If you desire true wisdom and reliable council, seek the Lord Jesus in prayer and fervent searching of the scriptures.
