John 8:32  “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

It’s a monumental concept; the scope of which we can never fully grasp during the time that we dwell in these vessels of clay.  I know that many claim to “have it all figured out” and I watch as folks will claim to have God, who inhabits eternity, placed into a series of cleverly designed formulas.  We do indeed have his word and through it we learn of him; his attributes, his pure holiness, and his plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.  Yet to really percieve his awesomeness is beyond our comprehension.  None of us who live in the realm of the linear, can even begin to comprehend the idea of “from everlasting and to everlasting, and yet scripture tells us that God inhabits eternity.  There has never been a time in which he wasn’t God, nor will there ever be such a time in the eons to come.  Likewise, we cannot grasp the concept of “time no longer;” a world in which things or events don’t have a specific window.  Yet we know from scripture that we will exist for all of eternity.  This means that when you came to be “you,” the landscape of the eternal was forever altered.  There will never be another moment in which you are not a part of “all that is.”  What does this all mean?  Simply this: we’re not nearly as smart as we would like to think and our days in the physical realm are but a vapor that appears for a moment and then goes to its place.

Job 9:1-2  “Then Job answered and said, I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?  If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.”

So, one might ask, “what’s the point of trying to underdstand something that we have no ability to begin to understand?  Live for today and hope for the best.”  Such is the general attitude of most, who glance at the world of theology and shake their head in dismay.  They see muslims fighting muslims, churches sqabbling over a host of issues, and they hear the ambassadors of every wind of doctrine under the sun, all claiming to be the “guardians of truth.”  It would seem to many, as though “truth” is buried under so many layers of tradition and theology that a quest for it would would certainly end in overwhelming frustration.  Yet truth is very real and available to anyone who seeks for it.

Proverbs 8:1-6  “Doth not wisdom cry?  and understanding put forth her voice?  She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.  She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.  Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.  Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.”

Truth; understanding and wisdom is readily available to any who truly seeks it; casting aside traditions and looking to the one who inhabits all of eternity.  The God who created every atom, every mountain, every star, every galaxy, and all of the dark energy that scientists struggle to find a place for in their ever-lengthening equasions.

Proverbs 2:5-7  “Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  He layeth up sound wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.”

True unbridled wisdom comes from God; not simply facts or equations, but real  understanding of that which is and that which shall be in the future.  a person can go to one institution of higher learning after another, heap unto themselves every degree under the sun, obtain knowledge far in excess of their piers, and then die in their sins because they forsook the truth that “God is.”  They counted the gospel; the good news that Jesus Christ paid for their sins, as little more than folklore.  Proverbs 1:7 declares that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Likewise, Psalm 53:1 declares that the fool has said in his heart that there is no God.  This next verse, I find myself quoting often, but it really addresses this topic.

Jeremiah 33:3  “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

This is an invitation to anyone.  Of course, if you simply deny the existance of God or deny the authority of his word, you’ll have no other option but to believe a lie.  The bible; penned over thousands of years by several different folks as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (II Peter 1:21) contains the mystery of God and has a 100% accuracy rating.  The new testament doesn’t contrast the old testament; it fulfills the old testament.  The book is of supernatural design as it would be statistcally impossible for so many scriptures, given across the span of centuries, to be in agreement with each other.  And yet this is what happened.  God has preserved his word for every generation, despite the untold number of attempts to alter it or remove it.

John 17:17  “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

God speaks through his word today.   He will never act in contrast to that which is written and as a reslt, you can use it to decipher between truth and error.  Feelings and emotions can change with the weather, but the word of God is steadfast; a fact to which Psalm 119 will attest.   If you’re born again, you are already aware of this.  It was through the word,; be it preaching or in written form, that you learned about Jesus Christ going to a cross to pay for your sins.  It was the Holy Ghost who led you into the household of faith.  It was through hearing the word of God that you came to know the truth that the truth set you free.

Well I’m falling asleep again at the computer.  We’re off work until January 2.  If this post seems confusing I would urge you to do as I did when I was an unsaved teenager.  I simply asked God to show me what was the right way.  I was serious about this and he honored that prayer; even though I was lost and was embracing every kind of contorted idea imaginable.  In time; which for me was September of 1983, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and have had a sure foundation ever since.  Even during the backslidden years, his word remained within.  Had it not, I have no idea as to where I would be today.  So please; just ask in sincerety and do as Jesus said to do.John 5:39

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:  and they are they which testify of me.”
