Straight On till Morning

January 17, 2007

Romans 13:11  “And now, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.”

James 5:8  “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”

If there’s a single desire in my heart whenever I come out here, it’s to be an encouragement to those of like faith and to urge any who have never accepted Jesus Christ as Savior to  do so while there’s still time.  Time really is running out.  It’s something that many of us don’t really think about as we go about our daily routine.  We know that these are the end times, but often, it doesn’t resonate with us as to just what this means.  Almost all of us have lived a life in which the status quo has been firmly in place.  Thus the temptation to become overcharged by the things of this life is tremendous.  I always strive to focus on the eternal; on Jesus Christ who is ever so soon to return.

Never has there been such an array of distractions as there are today.  Better living through science has given us the internet, cell phones, a plethura of entertainment options, and the general ability to be in contact with others 24/7.  This means that, if we so choose, we would never ever have to think for ourselves again.  (lol)  Never have there been so many voices competing for our attention.  In the lives of many, quiet time alone simply doesn’t exist anymore as the pressures of work, raising a family, and the general pace of life keeps us on the go continuously.  In my case, I tend to sacrifice sleep in order to blog.  (I’m doing it now; it’s 4:30am.)  It doesn’t seem like a sacrifice though as I always find encouragement in the posts of others and I like to write down whatever it is that’s on my heart at a given time.  In any case, many of us are so busy running to and fro to keep up with the pace of life that keeping a proper perspective takes a concerted effort.

With all of todays bells and whistles, it’s easy for our perspective to become distorted without our even being aware of it.  Tonight at work (well-last night) I went past a brother in the Lord and stated “The end of all things is at hand.”  My thinking was that Jesus is returning and time will no longer have any authority.  This brother saw it totally opposite and replied “Don’t be such a doomsdayer.”  This brother really loves the Lord with all of his heart.  Nonetheless, he viewed the quoting of the first part of I Peter 4:7 as a negative.  Indeed perilous times lay ahead and the end times senario “will” play out as scripture must come to pass.  For this reason we need to be watching always, however, the darkest hour is always before dawn and I get really excited when I think about the dawn.  When this corruption puts on incorruption and we are forever in the presence of the Lord Jesus who purchased us with his own blood; not because of anything that we did, but because he loves us.

Romans 8:18  “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

I long for the return of Jesus Christ to the point that it almost causes pain.  And yet, I praise God for each day that he prolongs judgment.  Not because I love the things of this world, but because it provides one more day in which a person can get right with God.  It provides another opportunity in which someone may ask Jesus to save them or another day in which the saints can hide a little more of the word of God in their heart.  This is why the apostle Paul was betwixt.  His desire was to be with Jesus, but he also desired to abide in the flesh for the sake of the church.

This is going to be a shorter than average post as I must get some sleep.  I just want to encourage all to keep looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.  To lay up treasure in heaven instead of becoming overcharged with the temporal acquisitions in this life which cannot see, hear, or deliver one in the day of adversity.  These are things that we all know to do, however, hearing them again is always encouraging.  I quoted the following verses recently, and they’re very familiar, however, they fit this post.

II Timothy 4:7-8  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:  and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

  2. What keeps coming to me these days is the line from this one song[which is usually how the Lord speaks to me aside from scripture] “Because the darkest hour is just before the dawn.”

  3. Amen Tim so true.
When we see all these things come to pass, we need to lokk up for our redemption draws nigh…
We still have work yet to do in the Harvest fields, but soon Jesus, the One we long to be with will bring us home and we will have all of eternity to be with Him.
What glory, what joy, what love…
    I do long for it.

    Bless you brother,

    Susan
