A “Show Stopping Number”

February 2, 2007

Acts 1:9-11  “And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud receivd him out of their sight.  And whle they steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven?  this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”

It’s the moment that we’ve all been waiting for.  It’s the hope of the saints and the dread of all who cling to that which is ungodly.  It’s the moment when the darkest phase of the earths history will come to an abrupt end and the Lord Jesus Christ returns to set up his kingdom on earth.  The hastily assembled forces of the beast system will be quickly defeated by the sword which “goeth out of his mouth” the beast and false prophet will be cast into the lake of fire, and that old serpent, which is the devil, and Satan shall be bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years.  When Jesus returns, all of the iniquity; all of the devices of ill-intent which one will unleash upon another, shall be no more.  The darkest hour of the earths history will dissolve in the glorious light of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We find ourselves in an age of unparalleled deception and pitfalls at every corner.  For instance, if you have been watching the events unfolding in Iran, you’ll know that their president, Ahmadinejad, believes in his heart that it’s his destiny to “remove israel from the map” and usher in the twelth imam who will emerge from a well in the city of Qom.  (Thats the basis; I don’t delve into the small details) These folks believe that Jesus will appear with this twelth imam and will inform us all to embrace the muslim faith.  This may sound to be “out there” but these folks really believe this and their leader is making all of what he perceives to be the necessary moves to facilitate this.

Matthew 24:23-26  “Then if any man shall say unto you, lo here is Christ, or there; believe it not.  For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.  Behold, I have told you before.  Wherefore if they say unto you, Behold he is in the desert; go not forth: behold he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.”

Matthew 24:27-28  “For as the lightening cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.”

Incredible deceptions upon the earth prior to our Lords return.  One would think that a simple studying of scripture would be warning enough to not believe someone who says “he’s in the secret chamber or desert place, or is claiming to “be him.”  Yet these pretenders will lead many astray.  Ours is a generation that’s impresed by “show” and this fascination with “display”will be taken full advantage of to profigate the big lie.  Tragically, the obsession for pretense will be the undoing of many as the are wooed into a way that seemeth right but the end thereof are the ways of death.

One might ask “how do we keep from being deceived?”  By simply doing the things that we know to do; staying in prayer and staying in the word.  If we’re diligent in these things, we’ll know truth from error.  By ensuring that Jesus Christ is always our “first love” and being sensitive to the Holy Ghost, we will be be fully equipped to withstand even the most persuasive of deceptions.  There are two primary verses that tells about who will be swayed by that which is error. Both of them I quote often so, in catering to consistancy, here they are again.

Daniel 11:32  “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt with flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits.”

II Thessalonians 2:10-12  “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”

Both passages point out that those who love unrighteousness will be the ones who will cleave to deceptions.  Those who are born again, grounded in the word of God, and have the Holy Ghost abiding within will know when something is amiss.  Both of the above scriptures should cause all of us to draw ever closer to the Lord Jesus and to reach out to the lost with a fervor like we’ve never had before.  Every soul is precious and every time that someone goes into eternity without Christ, it’s a senseless tragedy.  Senseless because their sins were paid for and they didn’t have to die in them.  While typing this post, I’m realizing that I need to be doing more to reach those who haven’t come into the husehold of faith.  To be a good testimony in word and in deed while being ready always to give an answer to any who should ask of the hope that’s in me.  I pray that we would all keep this in the forefront of our hearts.

This post was intended to be very uplifting, but instead has taken on an ambience of forboding.  If we abide in Christ and his word abides in us, we have nothing to fear.  Seriously; we are fully equipped for “anything” that comes against us.   And Now to get on with the original intent.  That being to talk about the return of Christ.  The best way to do this is to refer to the scriptures where it’s talked about.

Zechariah 14:4-5  “And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of olives, which is before jerusalem on the east, and the mount of olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountains shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.  And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto azal: yea, ye shall flee, likd as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come and all the saints with thee.

Revelation 1:7  “Behold he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.  Even so, Amen.”

Revelation 19:11-16  “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in white linen, white and clean.  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he should rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

A “Show Stopping Number” as all of the forces of the antichrist are defeated.  Jesus will establish his kingdom and the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.  The deceiver will be bound for a thousand years; unable to deceive the nations until the thousand years is up.  He will have one final “little season” after which he will join the beast and false prophet in the lake of fire. After that, he will never be heard from again.  I need to wrap this up.  I apolagize for the ominous sounding tones. This post wasn’t planned to go as it did, but I’ll leave it and I seriously invite input concerning these issues.  I’ll close out with this verse:

Jeremiah 31:34  “And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

  1. Our hope is indeed in him and in him alone, Christ Jesus! Keeping our eyes and ears focused upon He who is in Spirit and Truth our hope is indeed crucial for each and everyone of us who are called by his name.

We need not fear what the future holds, we need only to keep looking unto he who is our salvation, our faith and our hope, the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is simple, but always easy, however we can do all things in, and through He who is our very life and breath, the Lord Jesus Christ!

Another worthy post brother. Thank you! Stay faithful unto he who is our faithfulness, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Blessings in Christ Jesus!

  2. Oops! “I meant to write” It is simple, not NOT always easy, ”

I must remember to proof read.

    Blessings in Christ Jesus!

  3. Thanks Phil for your encouragemnt. I think that we’re playing “comment tag” as I was just on your site a minute ago. It’s always good to discuss issues of such importance and your posts are always needing of a second look.

  4. The interesting thing about Ahmadinejad and his “savior in the well” theory is that there are many who believe the scriptures you quoted are just as wacky.

Did you ever notice that the intent of their savior is to set up a global kingdom on earth run by those who believe in that faith. The Bible says that same thing to Christians. This will be accomplished, according to both faiths, by a massive amount of bloodshed.

We are quickly heading toward a collision of two faiths. One will be right and one will be wrong. Both can’t be right.

I’ll stake my eternity on Jesus Christ who accurately predicted that these events would occur at the time of the end. We can’t go wrong following after someone who is the Alpha and Omega and the Beginning and the End.

  5. Amen Cumby.

  6. Amen timbob, amen! and cumby too, and Phil…

May the Lord help us in this day and hour to look to Him and ever behold His face. May we know His will and be obedient; walking in the authority He has given us and that He bestows for certain times and situations.

The situation in Iran is serious, but we know the One who sets powers and principalities in place and we can trust Him.
May He keep our eyes on Jesus that we will not be of those who are received but walk uprightly and boldly, confident not in who we are , but in Christ who lives within us.
We may die for our stand and our faith, or we may live, but regardless, let’s give Jesus our all and run the race well by His grace!

    He is ever so Faithful!

Bless you always dear brother, I appreciate your insights and heart for the Lord.

    Susan

  7. Make that “who are not decieved.. ”

at least I am not the only one who makes typos, though I do make them a lot 🙂

  8. Interestingly enough relating to Ahmadinejad and his Iman Mahdi is that the latter is due to reign seven years before a climatic battle. At least, that’s what I read they were saying somewhere….

  9. Yes Peter, I have read that too.
There are actually several interesting parallels.

Satan isn’t creative so he takes truth, twists and warps it to fit his deceptive schemes..

May God help us all to be wise and discerning!

  10. Hi,

After reading “A Show Stopping Number” I cried…What grand writing.

How close are we to destruction? Muslim, Christian, Jews…all worship the God of Abraham. The killing and the blood-spilling soaks our earth. However, our Lord Jesus Christ is our salvation. His sweet and most simple message to this wonderful earth is “Believe in me”

I read the above comments and again the writing…Oh yes!
With Love to our Christian Sisters and Brothers…

    Thanks!

    Phil Edwards

  11. The picture in the above comment is not the one I use. Somehow…a substitution. Not by me…Sorry and my actual picture (pmespeak.com) Not great but me…

    Thanks!

    Phil Edwards

  12. Hi Phillip. Thanks so much for stopping by. I apolagize for the delayed reply as it’s been a hectic weekend. The return of Jesus is going to be so incredible that the mind cannot fathom the event. I mean to read the scriptures concerning this moment and then to think on what it will look like, it’s simply awesome beyond comprehension. And yet this is our blessed hope; that he will return, the saints will put on incorruption, and that we shall forever be with him. “Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (I Thes. 4:18)

Thanks again for taking time to comment. Blessings always in Jesus name.
