How Great is that Darkness

August 3, 2008

Mark 6:34 “And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.’

I John 5:19 “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Over ther past several years, much has been discussed concerning the ever-darkening spiritual climate that’s prevailant in the world today. It is an occurrance which is foretold of in scripture, and yet, to see it playing out before our eyes is heartbreaking. Ours is a generation that, in large part, appears so far removed from any basis of morality and spiritual understanding that in discussing issues with them, it’s like “oh boy; where do we start.” We’re up against widely held beliefs that seem to make sense, have an all-inclusive warm fuzzy feeling, and show “tolerance” toward those who engage in every form of lifestyle imaginable. Taking a stand for biblical truth, or even basic morality will cause one to be branded narrow-minded, hateful, out of touch, and lacking in compassion. Thus, the time will come (not might) when the beast system will be in full implementation and true christians will be turned in by folks who “sincerely believe” that they are serving the greater good.

Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

I Samuel 3:1″And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.”

In his August newsletter, David Meyer made the following statement. “When everybody accepts what everybody else is doing or believing, a new society appears, and all reference points determining right from wrong disappear.” We have reached such a point and one can wonder how long it can be permitted to continue. Our God is longsuffering and not willing for any to perish, but there comes a time when judgment must be rendered. It begins with the church who has embraced every form of wickedness imaginable and extends into the secular world which has rushed to obscure the truth with a complex array of half-truths, new-age concepts, and noble causes which appear innocent, but exclude from their endeavors, the Creator of all that is. This ultimately leads to the denial of our Savior, Jesus Christ, by whom the worlds were created, and who paid for our sins with his own blood.  (There is none righteous)

In addition to spiritual deceptions we are bombarded with an endless parade of gagets that “must be obtained,” pseudo-news broadcasts which cause the simple to feel informed,  and mindless entertainment options; all designed to keep the population stuck in a perpetual world of make believe. I encountered an example of this several days ago in the break room at work. CNN headline news was on, and if a nuclear detonation had taken place in the Persian Gulf that morning, nobody here would know about it. That’s because they had a panel of experts discussing what Brittney Spears should do to turn her life around. (She needs Jesus. Her soul is eternal, and priceless) Not only do many lack the ability to discern right from wrong, they are unable to discern reality from fantasy. I’m convinced that the major news outlets answer to handlers; those in high places with a global agenda, who determine what gets out and how it’s spun.

This lack of discernment and understanding doesn’t reside entirely in the secular world. The stories in recent years of churches condoning sinister lifestyles and questioning issues which are clearly defined in scripture are too numerous to mention. I know of individuals who attend a full gospel church in this area and yet have no problem with living in fornication.  I know of a church in Kalamazoo that openly embraces homosexuality and even spends money to get this message out through advertising. I know that this is going on all over the country and even the world. Yet it still blows my mind when something for which two cities were buried in brimstone is embraced and even encouraged by those professing to be “christian.”  It seems as though everyone, professing christians and non-christians alike, are doing whatever seems good in their own eyes.

Proverbs 16:6 “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.”

Many simply have no fear of God and therein lies the problem. They are unmoved by such verses as John 14:21 or I John 2:3-5 which reveal an accurate indicator of whether or not a person knows Jesus. Instead of sincerely seeking what God says about an issue, they pull out a few passages and “spin” them in an effort to justify whatever it is that they desire to justify. (like taking I Samuel 18:1and I Samuel 20:41, two passages concerning the “brotherly love” between David and Jonathan and perverting them into something that they “do not say”) A person who promotes such wickedness clearly has no concern for truth; nor do they honestly believe that every word and motive will be called into account on the day of judgment. These next two passges have been on my mind a lot lately:

Matthew 6:22-23 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness.”

Luke 11:35 “Take heed therefore that the light that is in thee be not darkness.”

These are incredibly dark times and the word of God is precious; just as in the days when Samuel ministered before Eli. I remember someone telling of a vision in which the ambient darkness became so stygian, that the light of Gods word created only a tiny area of visibility. The point being made was that it’s imperative for one to be extremely close to Jesus and grounded thouroughly in his word if they are to stand in that darkest of hours. Those times are approaching fast. Today the status quo appears to be holding, but tomorrow we may awaken to the brave new world. In our society, the barriers between right and wrong have been compromised; even in many churches. Increasingly, the main stream media is reporting on UFOs and extraterrestrial (fallen angel) encounters. (About once a month on Larry King.) The world is primed to believe a lie that will “appear right,” but will lead multitudes into everlasting death.

Well, I’m not really done, but Megan wants on the computer. Please check out david Meyers August newsletter HERE! This is an important message for all. On a personal note, a brother from work (Reiber) just opened up a myspace account. It’s in the blog roll as “Pray it Forward” but can also be found HERE. I wish to all, a blessed day in Jesus.

  1. The True Church

Persecutions of Christians can come in many forms and in different places. You do not have to be in Africa to suffer persecution, it happens right here on your doorstep. There are many precious Christians here in the United Kingdom that have suffered at the hands of their countrymen, and also at their local churches, – – – – – More At Site Billy

  2. “That’s because they had a panel of experts discussing what Brittney Spears should do to turn her life around.”

Gossip sites like TMZ make tons of money off that kind of stuff. It is both sick and ridiculous.

  3. Hi Timbob,

It’s been a while since I’ve left a comment here. It is both sad and sickening to see the spiritual darkness that is at work in this world. It does blow my mind how people who consider themselves Christians can live lifestyles that are clearly contradictory to Scripture and how that speaking out against sin is looked upon as a hate crime. I truly believe that we are living in the last days. What is most disturbing to me are the changes I’ve seen in some churches that were once solid Bible teaching and conservative. It seems as though many have thrown out the hymn books and have replaced them with shallow, “feel good” depth depraved music. I could go on, but I know that what I really need to do is pray a whole lot more, keep myself in God’s Word and help my family and our church to do the same. Things may be dark, but I still believe that God is going to have a people that are committed and sold out to Him. By God’s grace, I will be one of them.

  4. Yes, this generation truly is removed from truth, and having jettisoned belief in God, it is the next thing to take up belief in anything! (paraphrasing, I know).

The climate for persecution is there, simply because most will not care.

  5. Another good post brother, still keeping it real.God bless you bro………Frank

  6. Greetings to all. Thanks so much for stopping by. Things have been crazy around here lately.

Billy: I’ve heard reports of things taking place on your side of the pond. These are strange times indeed and we know that Jesus return is at hand. Thanks so much for stopping in.

J Kaiser. It blew my mind. Not only the shallow exchange of thought, but the number of people in the break room who actually found it interesting. WOW!

Carol. I love the old hymns. Frank Bartleman, who passed away in 1936, commented in his account of the Azuza Street revival that several years after the revival, songs had begun to take on a more fleshy nature. I can only imagine what he would say about things today.

Peter. Great to hear from you. I hope that the move went well and that all is well with your huehold. Indeed these are strange times in which nothing is as it appears. But Gods word remains true.

Frank. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll head in your direction when time permits. All of your posts are timely and I only wish that I could spend more time going through them.

Thanks again to all. Have a blessed day in Jesus.
