“Where My Haunt Is”

November 14, 2008

Many of us, if we were to remember back ten years or so, would have to conclude that our current position in the theater of atoms isn’t what we may have anticipated it would be. The best laid plans can be altered by changes in the ambience that transpired in a moment. Economic upheavel, geo-political shiftings, sudden illness, or a host of other unforseen circumstances, may leave in a place or position that we never would have expected to partake of. For many others, this may not be the case. They may have somehow managed to stick to the game plan that was placed together back in college and lived a life void of surprises, right into the golden years.  I know of people in both of these camps. Yet regardless of how we arrived at our present address, the truth is that we occupy a position in the arena of souls that only we can fill. We may enjoy it or we may pray fervently that the Lord would place us elsewhere, but as one of our high school teachers (Mr. Cole) used to say “Wherever you go, that’s where you are.”

Philippians 4:11-13 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Why is this important? Because the Lord is doing a short work in the earth and he is positioning his saints to be a testimony in the times ahead. Some he may be able to gently lead to move into their place. Others, he may have to relocate, through less than desirable circumstances, into their assigned position. Our current position may seem to make no sense whatsoever, but God has a perfect plan and at the right moment, he’ll share it with us. Some of us may find ourselves dwelling in Caesers household (Philippians 4:22) while others may be tending to the homeless in an urban landscape where despair permeates the atmosphere. Regardless of our setting, we are called to be a city set upon a hill, holding fast the profession of our faith in Jesus Christ. Last week in downtown Kalamazoo, it was unexpectedly dropped in my spirit “All that is seen will soon be no more. The only aspect that will remain is the souls.” These souls are found in every venue, and tragically, most of them are currently outside of the household of faith. (Indeed the harvest is VERY GREAT!”

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

When we begin focusing on the eternal, the temporal will no longer have any impact on our attitude. It’s become a cliche, but the truth is “IT’S ALL GOING TO BURN!”  Every single sub-atomic particle will cease to be and every trace of this temporal reality vanished. Whatever our current situation is, it will eventually give way to the everlasting realities.  Many saints today seem rattled by the manifestations in the physical realm. Economic unravelings, advances of the globalist agenda, censorship of this internet around the corner (READ THIS!) and the consequences of a generation that strives to put God out of its remembrance have many of the saints disquieted. In short, we are witnessing scriptural fulfilment and soon a world leader will emerge. This person will “make war with the saints and prevail against them” in the physical realm. Such ponderings will leave many asking “what shall we do?” The answers to this are as diverse as the myriad of self proclaimed advisors. Yet two scriptures stand out, and since I’ve been utilizing other well known verses this morning, here they are:

Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Philippians 1:28 “And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.”

The Lord has a custom set of plans for each of us as we find ourselves in the midst of scriptural fulfilment. Some may be led to store food for a time when strangers will be sent their way. Others may be called to abandon everything that they have accumulated and move to a location where they have absolutely no ties. We may find ourselves in physical circumstances where we wonder “How did I EVER get into this situation?” I’m certain that Joseph wondered this as he spent years in an Egyptian prison because of a lie. In any case, regardless of where our haunt is, or may be in the future, we must strive to be ever closer to Jesus, and love not this present world. This has been impressed upon me for months on end, which is why it keeps popping up in posts. “LOVING THIS WORLD WILL CAUSE ONE TO MAKE REALLY BAD DECISIONS” Loving anything more than Jesus will cause us to make really bad decisions. The enemy knows of any given persons reservations, and if we have an idol, it gives him a handle by which to tempt us. If we give him a rope, he’ll surely try to hang us with it.

Loving not the world has another advantage. Complete liberty! When our affections are on the Lord Jesus and not the present, the fellowship is so unexplainably sweet that the temptations from the world lose their gravity. The pull that they once had on us simply ceases to be. When we come across saints who have this understanding; not from a legalistic angle (which can also be enslaving) but because they have a close relationship with the Lord Jesus, they have a level of contentment that few seem to reach. Indeed, our joy should not be based on where we are or how many atoms we have accumulated, but in the Lord Jesus Christ who redeemed us from everlasting death and has gone to prepare a place for us.

Well, it’s time to tend to some other matters around here. Something has been on my mind for a few days. Every post that we place out here should be structured in such a way that, if we can never post again, our final paragraphs will be to the encouragement of the saints and the urging of those who know not the Lord Jesus to come to him before it’s too late. A persons final moment doesn’t always announce its approach. I’m not anticipating anything in particular at the moment, but we never know what a day may bring forth. At some point, what’s soon to be implemented Australia (check out the link in the third paragraph) will reach every corner of the globe. There are simply no words in the english vocabulary to adequately describe the sense of lateness that’s in my heart. I wish to all, a blessed day in Jesus.

John 15:17-19  “These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of this world, but I have chosen you out of this world, therefore the world hateth you.”

  1. God positions His saints. That a concept! It was only recently that I realy thought about the time years ago, that God brought me back to hmself. I am convinced that He chose a specific point in time to ensure I was exactly where He wanted me to serve Him, in U.S. Army Special Forces.

Even more recently, I became aware that God is placing His saints in positios as American host families for international students attending a very liberal, ‘inclusive’ local college. There are young adults coming to this college from Christian families. It’s the Christian host parents who are in place to help them grow and remain strong in their faith so far from home. I could go on and on, but will stop there……good post!

  2. Timbob,

Once, again, you are focusing in on the core, central issues. Thank you for continuing to do that.

I posted a comment on a dear sister’s blog, in a post very similar to this one. I’ll paste it here:

(start of paste)You said, “So what do you think this is all about? Talk to me.”

OK, Jessie; I’ll talk to you.

In my view, we are surely, truly entering into the end of days, and the Lord will be (already is) calling forth a remnant who will go through the furnace of affliction and tribulation.

These disciples will bring honor and glory to His name as they overcome by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony, and not loving their lives, even unto death.

They will turn many to righteousness and shine forth as the stars forever, but it will be painful and costly.

How’s THAT hit you? (end of paste)

Timbob, a fellow blogger and I will launch a new forum soon for people who are seeing the realities and want to seek some genuine, online encouragement and fellowship. I’m hoping you’ll be a part of it.

  3. Good evening Dan. Thanks for stoping by. So many times in scripture the Lord does this. The story of Joseph is a great example. To be in the right place at the right time, Joseph had to be sold, falsely accused, and forgotten about for two years in order to be where he had to be. The Lord is still working in this way.

Earlier today I was thinking on the verse “but then we shall know even as we are known.” When we are granted access to the big picture as it really is, we’ll be blown away in how awesome God is.

I have been to your blog a few times and always found it encouraging. I’m not always good at commenting, but it’s usually for a lack of time.

Thanks again. Have a blessed morning in Jesus.

  4. Good morning “endtimedisciple.” I think this forum will be an awesome thing. One reason that I like blogging so much is that there are a lot of saints here who understand the times that we are in. It’s encouraging to find those who love Jesus and long for his appearing.

I’m also convinced that this window of opportunity is soon to close and we should utilize it for as long as possible. A look at what’s to transpire in Australia makes it clear that this forum will, at some point, be regulated and we will probably be identified as “those who do not embrace the globalist agenda.”

I’ll have to get by your site again this weekend. I saw earlier that you mentioned the coming forum. That could possibly become a focus of my internet activity instead of blogging. Time will tell.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a blessed morning in Jesus. (Oh WOW! It’s 3:15 am)

  5. timbob,

You’re a real “night owl”, huh?

I’ll let you know when the forum is up and running. I’m really hoping it will facilitate some real connections and relationships.
