“What You Gonna Do When Everybodys Insane?”

January 7, 2009

Revelation 14:12-13 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”

In describing the time of the end, Jesus tells us that mens hearts will be failing them for fear as a result of the events transpiring on the earth. This Has been a pondering for some time; and yet no amount of thought can accurately portray how it may appear since none of us have witnessed anything like it. At some point, the conditions in the ambience will become so disrupted that everyone around us will acknowledge “the end of the world as we once knew it.” A time when every foundation and establishment once deemed simply “too big, too powerful, too rich, or too entrenched to fail will have been compromised. Endless debatings concerning the issue will have had their season and a reality that few ever considered to be possible will be manifest. Sadly, I fear that a majority of professing Christians will find themselves in an environment for which they haven’t prepared spiritually.

Isaiah 31:1 “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen because they are strong; but they look not to the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord!

Most of us have seen images of, or been a part of, chaotic situations where confusion was rampant and accurate information in short supply. Most of us still remember the images of New York on September 11, 2001 and New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Yet these events, athough very tragic indeed, (souls entering eternity is very serious) were confined to very particular reigons. Most of us didn’t know of the attack on the World Trade Center until word reached us through the media. (For me, it was shortly after the second plane hit. I was in a basement in Three Rivers installing a new HVAC system when the news came arcross the radio.) In other words, despite the round the clock coverage of this event, a person could have conceivably gone about their daily business and insulated themselves from any knowledge that the pre 911 world was no longer.

According to scripture, there’s coming a time like nothing that we have ever seen before. Most would prefer to convince themselves that the status quo will go on indefinately, but this simply isn’t the case. There’s ample evidence in the world at this very moment, that the status quo is is on life support. Even if things have not progressed as far down the prophetic timeline as we think, (we see through a glass darkly) the truth remains that, prior to the return of Jesus, the world will undergo incredible upheaval. The inhabitors of the earth will be subjected to very strong deceptions, a great falling away will transpire as multitudes of professing christians are led away by the myriad of deceptions, and untold millions will receive a mark of allegiance to the son of perdition in order to buy, sell, and save their lives in this world.

This isn’t a pleasant topic, but a needful one as the dangers of the times are difficult for many to fathom. Many have become comfortable in a lukewarm state, thinking to themselves “I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing” however, are completely unprepared for the trials of our faith that lie ahead. The danger of being blindsided by unexpected tribulation is there won’t be time to suddenly “become spiritual” and one who has been following Jesus from afar will be every bit as unprepared as those who made no profession of faith in Jesus at all. Panic will ensue as peace and safety gives way to astonishing uncertainty in a moment. And when someone finally offers a return to stability in the physical realm, one who is not close to Jesus will be very tempted to rationalize and justify whatever is required to be a partaker of that stability. The real tragedy is that multitudes; including many who should know better, will receive a mark in exchange for a morsel of meat.

On the Monday broadcast of Coast to Coast AM, Kathrine Albrecht mentioned something that not only revealed the lateness of the hour, it showed how folks can be lured into embracing questionable programs. (Or ambiguous change) In the 1930s, when the plan for issuing Social Security numbers was first introduced, our society, in large part, was much more biblically literate than today. There was almost overwhelming opposition to a program that seemed to be a direct step toward the mark of the beast. Finally, through much flattery, the program was accepted as promises were made to keep the program 100% voluntary and to use it “only for the issuing of benefits.” Today, it’s a requirement to function in society and yet while the program ended up doing exactly what it wasn’t supposed to do, nobody cries out against it. And what will happen when the mark of the beast is finally introduced?

Revelation 13:16-17 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their forehead: And that no man might buy or sell, save he had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

“Receive” is a voluntary term. The mark will be voluntary, however without it one will be unable to function in this world and ultimately it will cost all who refuse it our place in the temporal world. For generations, our society has been gradually prepared for the time when such a program will be implemented and the preparation is all but completed. I write about this because the most perilous times in the earths history are upon us and very few will even give thought to the possibility, much less plan accordingly. During the past couple of weeks, I was astonished at such comments as “the economy will turn around next year” and Obama has some good ideas to get the country moving again.” Total confidence in the chariots of Egypt as many cannot bring themselves to see what’s taking place all around them; much less consider where they will spend eternity if tomorrow never comes.

I Thessalonians 5:3-4 “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.”

Well this post has strayed somewhat, but the truth is that we’re headed for very unsettling times and many who we may have considered trustworthy may go completely nutty when the fireworks begin. Jesus gave us this instruction: “In your patience possess ye your souls.” We must hold fast the testimony of Jesus; even as the world, along with many once-professing christians, are wondering after a very authentic looking counterfeit; complete with signs and lying wonders. There’s just no way to over-emphasize just how perilous these times are. May all of us get in close to the Lord Jesus and hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Matthew 24:21-22  “For then shall be great tribulation such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elects sake those days shall be shortened.”
